I never know what to write in these “About” sections. “I’m starting a site,” I’d say to family and friends, and they’d inevitably ask me what it’s about. “Games and junk,” I’d say.
Anyway. I’m Brian. I’ve been writing about games for fun for quite a long time now, from writing user reviews on site forums (they are horribly, horribly written), to my time with sadly defunct websites B-Ten and its successor, Current Digital. I used to write a weekly series on Kotaku’s user blog, Talk Amongst Yourselves, and maybe I’ll start it up again someday.
I love video games; they’re these amazing, magical time-wasters that can transport us to another world and make us feel a wide range of emotions all through the course of a few hours. They’re another life we can live, if only temporarily. Also, blowing shit up in a virtual world is really fun, too. It really depends on what you’re in the mood for. So I figured I’d start my own site to share my long-winded opinions with you. And the opinions of others, eventually, maybe.
It’s called CrashBomber; it’s a weapon from Mega Man 2. I don’t have any loftier purpose behind that name, save that it sounds cool, and I like Mega Man 2. It’s the best one. It’s the first one I played, too, and…it’s also the earliest game I can remember feeling like it was more than the sum of its parts. Gameplay, level design, themes, music, enemy placement…all these cold, hard technical aspects really added up to something special–more special than it would’ve been had all those parts worked separately rather than together.
Anyway, that’s enough gushing over Mega Man 2. The point behind this site is simply to make a gaming, movie, music, comics, etc. etc. etc. site that I would want to read. It’s a place to critically analyze media, post longreads about personal experiences, or just funny/cool shit I find. I don’t have a strict format in mind, other than a sort of chill, relaxed site focusing more on the positive side of games, movies, etc. We’re focusing more on the post-release side of games rather than previews and hype. We’ll have reviews, some of which are for older games, because why not? Need we stop talking about a game after release? I don’t think so.
As I said, I’m making the site I want, and I hope you’ll hang out here, too. Communicate with me, tell me what you want to see here, and together we’ll make something cool.
